Industry veteran, Ron DeJongh, joins North America’s sixth largest grain company
Landus Cooperative today announced Ron DeJongh as Chief Commodity Marketing Officer of the farmer-owned company effective August 1, 2018. DeJongh succeeds Roger Fray who had been with the cooperative since its formation in 2016 and served as Senior Vice President for its predecessor company West Central since 2001.
In his role, DeJong will be responsible for the strategic direction of grain policies, inventory and quality control policies, as well as farmer-facing grain marketing programs including the company’s Cooperative Advantage Package. Also, DeJongh will oversee domestic and international end-user marketing relationships for the cooperative, which is the sixth largest grain company in North America based on storage capacity.
“As a farmer-owned cooperative competing in a turbulent, global marketplace in the midst of a multi-year downturn of on-farm profitability, Landus Cooperative must be laser-focused on our grain marketing services,” explained Milan Kucerak, chief executive officer of the Ames, Iowa-based company.
“Our grain team, under DeJongh’s direction, must be focused on innovation, efficiency, and profitability on behalf of our customers,” added Kucerak. “Our farmers produce and market high-quality corn and soybeans from some of the best soil in the world. Our role is to get their grain to the end-users in Iowa and across the world who depend on us to ship it to them when and where they need it. We look forward to Ron building our members’ opportunities across the supply chain.”
DeJongh most recently served as the Senior Vice President at Columbia Grain where he directed operations of all elevators and rail transportation, and fertilizer warehousing operations. Formerly in the cooperative system at AGP Grain Ltd., he held various grain leadership roles in merchandising, marketing and export spanning nearly 20 years. He has an agricultural business administration degree from the University of Minnesota.
