Iowa Co-ops Weigh Merger

OMAHA (DTN) — A potential merger of two Iowa cooperatives would result in the creation of one of the largest cooperatives in the country.

Board members from Ralston, Iowa,-based West Central Cooperative and Ames, Iowa,-based Farmers Cooperative Co. announced Tuesday that both boards voted unanimously to sign a letter of intent to conduct a study into a possible merger. Such a merger would create a cooperative with $2.1 billion in revenues based on 2013 data reported to USDA.
